What to expect in Dana Point
Your captain meets your group at the dock, takes you to the scattering spot, and gives you time for words, music, flowers or silence. Afterward, the captain records the coordinates of the scattering so your family always knows where it took place. Biodegradable urns and flowers can be ordered from our memorial store and delivered before your service.

Federal rule. Report to the EPA within 30 days.
The state rule technically allows scattering in a harbor if you are 500+ yards from every shoreline. Dana Point Harbor is too small and enclosed for any spot to meet that, so scatter outside the breakwater. To satisfy the federal EPA rule, go at least 3 nautical miles (about 3.5 statute miles) offshore. There is no national marine sanctuary off Dana Point. File with the Orange County registrar.
