A private burial at sea from Hampton aboard a 38-foot Axopar, across Hampton Roads and out past Cape Henry to the Atlantic.

Hampton Roads and the Chesapeake Bay are inside waters, so the boat runs out the Bay mouth past Cape Henry and Fort Story, then 3 nautical miles offshore: roughly 18 to 22 nautical miles each way. The scattering happens at least 3 nautical miles from land, as the federal EPA burial-at-sea rule requires, and the captain files the EPA report afterward.

Hampton Roads is one of the busiest naval harbors in the world. The captain keeps 500 yards from Navy ships and routes around the restricted areas near Fort Monroe, Langley and Norfolk Naval Station.

You lead the ceremony, or the captain can help guide it: share memories, read a passage or prayer, play a song, then release the ashes together. There is no rush.

Departure time is up to you and the weather. Many families choose late afternoon or near sunset, when the water is often calmer. If anything needs to change after booking, the captain will contact you.

Weather and family plans can change. If you or the captain need to change the date, we first find a new date that works for everyone. If no new date works, you can cancel: when you cancel, the charter is refunded minus the 11.5% booking fee and card processing; when the captain cancels, you receive a full refund.
